Royal Malewane Conservation and Research Centre
Royal Malewane
Where Field Studies and Research Come to Life
Understanding wildlife is the key to conservation success, which is why The Royal Portfolio Foundation actively supports conservation and research projects with the goal of gaining insights that will help us act in the best interests of wildlife, people and the environment.
The Royal Portfolio Foundation facilitated the creation of the Conservation and Research Centre (CRC) at Royal Malewane, a space for researchers and conservationists to collaborate and share what they have learnt with local community members, guests, staff from Royal Malewane and neighbouring lodges, and reserve workers.
The focal point is the Nature Lounge, a beautiful space featuring Greater Kruger artefacts, where monthly presentations are hosted by conservation and wildlife experts while also providing a venue for teacher training, education programmes and conservation conferences.
The centre’s residence offers convenient accommodation for researchers from a variety of universities and non-profit organisations. In addition to their primary base in the south, the CRC also provides a secondary base in the north for the dedicated rangers and dogs of the reserve’s anti-poaching K9 Unit.
