The relationship is one of proximity only. The hotel and the museum are located within the historic grain silo building that was built in 1924. The Silo Hotel is in the grain elevator portion of the grain silo building occupying 6 floors above Zeitz MOCAA.
The hotel and the museum nevertheless enjoy a close relationship and guided tours of the museum can be arranged with the hotel concierge.
The exterior of the building and the inside of the museum has been designed by Thomas Heatherwick, Founder and Principal of the London-based Heatherwick Studio. Heatherwick Studio was tasked with the transformation of the elevator house and the adjacent storage annex of 6 rows of 7 silos, while carefully retaining its cultural significance and creating a building that would be synonymous with the Cape Town skyline.
