Children's Activities at La Residence

Life on the farm means lots of carefree times in the great outdoors – going for walks, riding bikes, picking flowers or visiting the ponies. Kids can also learn to cook, paint and draw and even (drum roll) enjoy an evening without grown-ups!

In our Junior Masterchef classes, children explore their creativity through making pizzas from scratch or decorating cakes with fresh garden ingredients. Creative Workshops invite young artists to craft clay sculptures, paintings, and canvas art to take home as souvenirs. During Flower Arranging sessions, kids pick and arrange garden flowers with help from our in-house florist.

There are many ways to enjoy nature at La Residence – take a family walking tour of the estate, feed our friendly ponies Tango and Twist with apples from the kitchen, or explore the surroundings on bicycles available in all sizes. E-bikes are perfect for older kids and adults to visit Franschhoek and the Saturday Village Market.

On Parent’s Night Out (any evening of your choice), our activities team will host children for a fun-filled experience featuring pizza-making, movies, and popcorn – always a highlight of any stay. Parents can relax and enjoy all that La Res has to offer, knowing our qualified babysitters are taking excellent care of the little ones (advance booking required).

Family Excursions Around Franschhoek

The Franschhoek Valley has so much to offer families that encourage enjoyment of the outdoors and inspire a love of nature, culture, and quality time spent together. Adventurous families might enjoy hitting a trail together on foot or horseback, or cycling along a mountain pass, while others might prefer art classes or museum tours – all are within a short distance of La Residence.

Adventure Activities

Families with children staying at La Res can enjoy a choice of exciting outdoor experiences. Race through scenic mountain trails on four-wheeled quad bikes, coast downhill on exhilarating scooter tours (kids 4-9 ride with parents, 10+ can drive their own), or explore the beautiful Cape Winelands on guided horseback rides suitable for all experience levels.

Visit the Franschhoek Farm Sanctuary, a haven for rescued farm animals where kids can participate in meaningful animal encounters, or step back in time at Soetmelksvlei at Babylonstoren with an interactive farmyard experience reminiscent of 19th century farm life. Take a sensory adventure along the Spice Route, a great day out featuring chocolate tasting, clay painting, and artisanal food.

Children will delight in the miniature train ride on the Winelands Light Railway through the spectacular gardens at Koelenhof Estate in Stellenbosch, or families can spend a day at Wonderdal, a magical interactive edutainment centre where learning and play combine through technology and imagination.
