Hermanus Night Shelter
Birkenhead House
Lending a Helping Hand
A registered non-profit organisation, the Hermanus Night Shelter is dedicated to offering accommodation and support to individuals facing homelessness, with a compassionate team of devoted staff members and volunteers, including a full-time social worker, committed to serving the community. The shelter aims to assist individuals with overcoming obstacles so that they can return to living independently.
The 32-bed facility in Mount Pleasant, located between Hermanus and Sandbaai, has been operational since 2022. Since inception, it has assisted over 2,000 individuals and supported more than 200 local families in need.
The Royal Portfolio Foundation team at Birkenhead House volunteers its time every fortnight, purchasing ingredients, preparing, and serving nutritious meals. Through collaboration with initiatives like the Hermanus Night Shelter, we strive to deliver hope and dignity to society’s most vulnerable members, providing dependable shelter and essential services to those experiencing homelessness.
